This overview lists everything that is new in the KERN Katalog and visible to you as a user – most recent version first.

- The image counter appears on the right of the gallery header. Comments and sharing use the same heading size as documents and images. The extra comments divider and sharing panel background are removed.

- Structured data for search engines updates during page navigation without Trusted Types errors. The existing security policy remains unchanged.
Version 2.16.1
- Additional raster images open the cover's interactive crop tool immediately after upload. The original ratio is selected by default; preset and custom ratios are available. Numbered controls switch gallery images. A waiting indicator appears beside the upload status.

- Entries can include up to ten additional images. The limit is configurable. The new optional wizard step supports cropping, ordering, and individual ALT descriptions. The required cover and its dark variant remain unchanged.
- The new Images tab shows the image count and a keyboard-accessible carousel. The gallery also appears in My entries previews and editorial review. German, English, light mode, and dark mode are supported.
- ALT descriptions for cover and additional images can optionally use Microsoft Azure. Only an explicit action sends the selected image. Notices explain possible AI errors and warn against personal information. Authors must review and accept suggestions. Manual descriptions remain available without AI.

- Article pages and the preview under “My entries” group comments, attachments and sharing into segmented tabs below the article. Number badges in KERN purple (light mode) or KERN cyan (dark mode) show the total comments and attachments. The tabs support keyboard use and both themes. Unpublished entries expose no public sharing links.
- Entries can include optional documents with display names and preview images. The new wizard step supports PDF, Office, OpenDocument, text and CSV. Default limits are five documents, up to 25 MB each.
- Documents appear in the author preview, published entries and editorial review. German and English interfaces support light and dark themes. Preview-image backgrounds are transparent on article pages and in the author preview.
Version 2.14.0
- Social images now render natively at 2400 × 1260 pixels for sharper text and cover images on high-resolution displays.
- Sharing metadata now includes public author names. Publication aliases remain in place. Private contact details are not included.
- Social previews can also be checked on test environments. Named preview crawlers may fetch public entry pages and social images. Search crawlers remain blocked there.
- Social images use the official KERN Katalog logo for each theme. Cover images use a square crop. Summary formatting appears without visible Markdown markers.
- Public entries include Open Graph and Twitter Card metadata in the initial HTML. Social services can read the title, description, and social image without JavaScript.
- Generated social images support German and English entries and light and dark themes. The preview follows your theme. Social services receive the light image by default.
- Versioned image addresses update the preview after changes. Non-public and withdrawn entries expose no sharing metadata. External services may retain older cached previews.
Version 2.12.3
- Published entries have email, nine social-service, and device-sharing actions at the bottom of the information panel. “Copy link” copies the public entry address without search or sign-in parameters.
- Share actions support light and dark modes, keyboard use, and narrow screens. Mastodon supports your own instance. The catalog loads no social-media scripts.
- Long link descriptions stay inside the information panel. An ellipsis indicates limited space. Keyboard focus, title hints, and print output preserve the complete text.
- Security updates cover the frontend and backend. Production JavaScript dependencies and Python packages have no current audit findings. Some development-tool advisories await upstream fixes.
- German and English pages remain prerendered. A tested first-party prerender step supports the patched React Router version.
